The story
Michael is forty-four, self-made, and done with God. Then a hospice calls. The father who walked out when Michael was nine has died, and he left a shoebox behind.
Inside: thirty-four birthday cards that were never mailed, a child's baseball glove, a worn Bible, and one last letter. It asks for nothing. It tells him the truth, and it tells him about a Father who never left.
Jesus told this story first: a son a great way off, and a father who saw him coming and ran.
